Welcome to the F.L.Y. Girl Candles Blog!

Hello, beautiful souls! It’s Dierdre here, and today I’m thrilled to share some essential tips on how to care for your candles to ensure the best possible experience. At F.L.Y. Girl Candles, we believe in the importance of first loving yourself, and part of that is creating a serene and comforting atmosphere in your own space with the perfect candlelight. Let's dive into the best practices for candle care before, during, and after burning your candles.

Before Lighting Your Candle

1. Trim the Wick Before you light your candle, make sure the wick is trimmed to about 1/4 inch. This helps prevent the flame from getting too large and smoking. A well-trimmed wick also helps your candle burn more evenly.

2. Check for Debris Ensure that the wax pool is clear of any wick trimmings or matches. Debris in your candle can catch fire and lead to a dangerous situation, besides affecting how cleanly your candle burns.

3. Set the Stage Choose a safe, stable surface away from drafts, children, pets, and anything flammable. Setting your candle in the right spot will not only keep you safe but also enhance the candle’s performance by preventing uneven burning and sooting.

During the Burn

1. Allow for a Full Melt Pool The first time you light your candle, allow it to burn long enough to let the top layer of wax melt all the way across. This might take a few hours, depending on the size of your candle. Doing this helps prevent tunneling, which can limit the life of your candle.

2. Keep It Away from Moving Air Try to keep your burning candle away from fans, air conditioners, open windows, or busy traffic areas where people walk back and forth a lot. Air currents can disturb the flame's direction, causing uneven burning and dripping.

3. Don’t Burn All the Way Down For safety, stop use when there's about 1/2 inch of wax left in the container. Burning beyond this point can be a fire hazard and might damage the container if it gets too hot.

After Burning

1. Clean and Repurpose Once your candle has reached its end, you can clean out the container and repurpose it! Warm water and soap often do the trick to remove residual wax.

2. Storage If you’re not planning to burn the same candle soon, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the fragrance and wax quality.

3. Reflect Every candle offers a moment for us to reflect, relax, and take care of ourselves. Remember, part of candle care is caring for the ambiance and, ultimately, for yourself.

At F.L.Y. Girl Candles, we're more than just a candle company; we’re a community dedicated to embracing self-love and relaxation. I hope these tips help you enjoy your candles safely and to their fullest. Happy burning, and remember, you deserve this beautiful light in your life!

With warmth and light,

Dierdre
