Candle Care 101: How to Make Your Hand-Poured Candles Last Longer

Welcome to the F.L.Y. Girl community!
It’s Deirdre here, and I want to make sure you get the most out of every hand-poured soy candle you buy. Proper candle care isn't just about safety; it’s about making your favorite scents last as long as possible.
Here is my expert guide to the perfect burn:
Step 1: The Pre-Burn Prep: Before you light up, you must trim your candle wick to exactly 1/4 inch. This prevents a large, flickering flame and stops soot from forming on your jar. Also, ensure your candle is on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts to ensure an even, clean burn.
Step 2: The First Burn is Everything: The most important rule of candle maintenance is the first burn. You must let the wax melt all the way to the edges of the jar. This is the only way to prevent candle tunneling, which can waste half of your candle. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and stop burning when 1/2 inch of wax remains.
Step 3: Aftercare and Storage: Once you've extinguished the flame, let the wax set completely before moving it. Store your candles in a cool, dry place to preserve the premium fragrance oils. Once your candle is finished, don't throw away the jar! Our glass containers are perfect for repurposing as planters or organizers.
Taking care of your candles is a form of taking care of yourself. A well-maintained candle provides a better self-care experience and keeps your home smelling amazing for hours. Need the right tools for the job? Shop our Premium Wick Trimmers here.
